Hypnotic Induction – How Hypnosis Works
Okay, let’s talk about how hypnosis works. It’s pretty amazing really (that’s what i thought when i found out about it). Let’s say I’m hypnotizing my girlfriend… What I need to do is lead her into a trans like state where she becomes totally unaware of current situation.
When this happens, she becomes more relaxed and suggestible to me (hypnotist). You maybe wondering how the heck it happens? Why is my girlfriend in the hypnotic state willing to do whatever being asked to do?
Have you ever heard of Dr. Milton Erickson? He is known as one of the greatest master hypnotists in 20th century, who discovered this particular hypnosis method called “conversational hypnosis”. He found out that people actually hypnotize themselves pretty much everyday without realizing it.
This happens to me too almost everyday, like when I’m watching dvd movies, listening to my favorite piece of music with my iPod or even when I’m day dreaming for a minute in a park under a ray of sunshine… What happens is that people get so into it so much, they become unaware of what’s happening in the real surroundings. Hypnosis can be defined as a mental state between your sleep and wakeful state.
Now it’s important to understand conscious and subconscious mind and how they work if you want to learn how to hypnotize someone. When my girlfriend goes to hypnotic state, her subconscious mind can directly be accessed by me (my suggestions).
If you are in conscious state, you are basically aware of your thoughts, everything that is happening around you and things you do to yourself and others. Those things happen because your subconscious mind give orders to your conscious mind to execute things in life, which you are fully aware of. This includes things that you do very often such as your physical habits and they are automatically handled by subconscious mind. This means that your subconscious mind hold the true power behind all operations in your everyday life.
Back to my example. When my girlfriend is in a hypnotic state, her subconscious mind gets wide open and ready to receive any information directly from me while her conscious mind gets a lot less active. Because her subconscious mind holds all incoming information coming from me, I can even change some of the information that are already stored in her mind. This is a hypnotic technique that hypnotherapists use to fix people’s bad habits.
